Let’s take a short diabetes break for the day…although not entirely. I credit a lot of good stuff in my life to having read these books-including taking care of my health.
In no particular order:
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People– Stephen R. Covey
Because this book is just right and anyone even half way attempting these 7 habits will gain something.
The Greatest Salesman in the World– Og Mandino
A beautiful and magical little tale with a pow! at the end. My dad had me read this when I was around 10, 11 years old. I will pay my kids to read it if I have to.
The Catcher in the Rye– J.D. Salinger
I almost wish I hadn’t read this book because when I did I couldn’t stop obsessing about it for months. Sometimes I’d ask myself what this book taught me…and I could never answer that question. But if you’ve read it you know what I mean…right?
The Sun Also Rises– Ernest Hemingway
I loved this story but most of all I loved Hemingway’s style of writing. I spent months practicing writing more like Hemingway. Short and sweet is not as easy as it looks.
The Alchemist– Paulo Coelho
I read this book six years ago when my diabetes management was a mess. After reading this book I saw my life in a completely different way and so in a way I credit my newfound health to having come across this beautiful book. I read it once a year because the message in it is priceless and worth keeping fresh and alive.
War and Peace– Leo Tolstoy
Phew! If you can get through this one…it’s the most amazing book. It has a bit of everything, transports you into another world, and makes wiser by the end.
The Four Hour Work Week– Timothy Ferriss
A big reason for this blog’s existence stems from my reading this book and so I’m eternally grateful. I’m always impressed when someone goes about defining their own version of success instead of subscribing to the herd mentality.
